LGBT in Britain Reports

I designed covers for Stonewall’s LGBT in Britain reports, a major series of research publications documenting the experiences of LGBT people across the UK. Based on YouGov survey data, the reports explored areas including health, work, education and hate crime, so the design needed to feel credible, human and accessible while supporting Stonewall’s evidence-led campaigning work.

//The Design Process

Research-led visual direction: I worked with Stonewall’s research team to understand the focus of each report, shaping the cover approach around the specific subject matter while maintaining a consistent visual identity across the wider series.

Photography planning: guided by themes such as health, work, education and hate crime, I organised and oversaw photography for use on the report covers, ensuring the imagery felt relevant, authentic and respectful to the communities represented.

Publication series design: I created a cover system that allowed each report to stand alone while still feeling part of a connected research suite, using consistent typography, layout and brand treatment across the series.

Collaborative delivery: I worked closely with internal teams to balance research credibility, campaign messaging and visual impact, making sure the final covers supported both policy audiences and public engagement.

Clear research identity: the cover designs gave the LGBT in Britain series a recognisable and professional presence, helping position the reports as authoritative, accessible and campaign-ready.

Human-centred storytelling: the photography helped bring the research topics to life, moving the reports beyond data alone and giving each publication a stronger emotional and visual connection.

Consistent publication system: the series approach made it easier for audiences to recognise the reports as part of Stonewall’s wider body of evidence on LGBT experiences in Britain.

Campaign and policy value: the designs supported Stonewall’s use of the research across communications, advocacy and public awareness work, helping complex findings feel more visible, relevant and easy to engage with.
