St Christopher's CARE book

This publication was designed for St Christopher’s Hospice to accompany a conference reflecting on the concept of “total pain,” first introduced by Dame Cicely Saunders, and its relevance in contemporary palliative care. The book brings together essays, case studies and reflections from clinicians, researchers and practitioners exploring the physical, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of suffering at the end of life. My role was to design a publication that could hold complex and sensitive material while remaining accessible, thoughtful and visually engaging.

The design balances clarity with warmth, combining editorial typography with bold illustrative elements that echo the human and relational themes of the text. A consistent visual system structures the multi-author content, using colour, hierarchy and imagery to guide readers through essays, personal narratives and research perspectives. The result is a carefully considered publication that supports reflection and discussion around contemporary hospice care while maintaining a calm, humane tone appropriate to its subject matter.
